October Chip Price Increases: onsemi and Allegro Reprice — Three Weeks Left to Lock In

ntroduction

On September 16, onsemi issued a formal price adjustment notice to customers, effective October 10, 2026 — its second increase this year. Days earlier, a second notice circulated through the channel from Allegro MicroSystems: dated August 17, it applies to the entire product portfolio from October 1.

The two companies sell into different sockets — one in power devices and power management, the other in magnetic sensors and motor drivers — yet both chose October as the effective date. For buyers, that leaves roughly three weeks to lock in pricing.

First company-wide increase

Neither notice discloses a blanket percentage. Affected part numbers and pricing detail will come from authorized distributors, one account at a time. The same part may carry different terms depending on which channel you ask first — so ask early.

Allegro's list is worth reading closely. Precious metals, rare earths, foundry and OSAT are all packaging and materials costs, not wafer fabrication. Magnetic sensors and power ICs depend on precious-metal bond wires and specialized packaging, and those costs rarely come back down through negotiation.

2. Why this round cannot wait

The deciding factor is not the percentage. It is the lead time.

Power device lead times are already running ahead of price. Industry surveys put onsemi power device lead times at 40 to 50 weeks, with constrained part numbers at 52 weeks. High-voltage devices dedicated to industrial equipment and AI data centers typically sit at 24 weeks or more. Commodity MOSFETs and rectifiers have moved from the historical 8–12 weeks to 30 weeks and beyond.

The implication is simple: if you do not place the order now, the parts arrive next autumn regardless of price — and ordering after October 10 means a higher price for the same wait.

Supply-side contraction is structural. Effective 8-inch mature-node capacity is forecast to fall 2.4% year on year in 2026 while AI high-voltage demand keeps absorbing it. On the cost side, 8-inch foundry pricing is up 5%–20%, packaging up roughly 30%, semiconductor-grade hydrofluoric acid (G5 grade) has moved from about RMB 120,000 to over RMB 210,000 per tonne within six months (+75%), and SiC substrates are up more than 50% year on year. The conclusion is straightforward: this is not an increase you can wait out.

3. Four things to do within three weeks

1. Classify your part numbers into three tiers. Rank by automotive/industrial grade, single-source status and project lifecycle. The highest priority is automotive or industrial grade, single-sourced, with a project lifecycle beyond three years — these carry the highest replacement cost if supply stops or pricing jumps.

2. Confirm quote validity in writing. Because no notice discloses part-level percentages, the quote's validity window is the only variable you control. Ask every channel three questions: is the current quote valid after October 10 (or October 1), until exactly which date, and does it cover orders already placed but not yet shipped. The "distributor will provide part-level detail" arrangement means channel pricing policies may shift at different times — the earlier you confirm, the better your position.

3. Negotiate allocation, not just price. In categories with 40-week-plus lead times, allocation matters more than a discount. Acceptable trade-offs include extending your forecast horizon (rolling 12-month volumes), accepting split deliveries, or bundling volume across constrained and unconstrained parts. Trading order volume on unconstrained parts for allocation on constrained parts is the most effective lever available today.

4. Start second-source qualification — but do not switch yet. In magnetic sensing and motor drive, several alternatives to Allegro are worth evaluating; in commodity discretes, Diodes and domestic power IDMs are the main recipients of diverted demand. Qualification cycles typically run 6 to 12 months, so starting now is about having options next year. Worth noting: Nexperia China's 12-inch platform has raised localization of MOSFETs and logic ICs from under 20% to close to 100%, cutting unit cost by roughly 50% — a credible second-source path.

4. How we can help

We cover 14 mainstream global chip brands — TI, Infineon, ST, ADI, NXP, onsemi, Diodes, ROHM, Allegro, Melexis, AKM, TDK-Micronas, SEIKO NPC and Honeywell — with established channel resources across power, analog, sensing and memory.

For this October repricing round we can support: stock and in-transit availability checks before the effective date, confirmation of authorized-channel quote validity, allocation coordination on constrained part numbers, alternative part matching and feasibility assessment, and stocking plans built around your project lifecycle.

Whether you need onsemi pricing secured before October 10 or an alternative path for Allegro's portfolio-wide increase, send us your BOM or part list and we will come back with a workable supply plan.
