Chip Price Hikes Extend into Q4 2026: A September–October Price-Increase Calendar and Staged Lock-in Strategy

Introduction

"When does this price wave end?" is the most frequent question buyers have asked this half. The answer is becoming clear: not soon — and another batch of increases is already queued for Q4. ST's third round has landed, ADI's second round takes effect September 13, NXP raises select parts on September 28, TI's third-round notice is circulating, and China-based and Taiwanese suppliers are expected to follow from October. Price increases have moved from isolated manufacturer actions to a relay race.

Bottom line: Stop waiting for price relief. Treat "small quarterly increases" as the new normal, and split H2 buying into two timelines — a price-lock calendar and a buffer-stock schedule — and execute in stages.

2. Why increases are not stopping

1.       AI is siphoning mature-node capacity. High-margin AI-server power and automotive orders keep squeezing 8-inch wafer lines, structurally shrinking capacity for general-purpose analog, MCUs, and power discretes.

2.       8-inch supply is contracting. Research firms estimate global 8-inch capacity down ~2.4% in 2026; foundries such as UMC have raised 8-inch pricing, and TSMC reportedly plans 2027 foundry increases of 5–10%.

3.       Costs are rigid across the chain. Wafers, packaging (some quotes up near 30%), energy and logistics keep rising — and suppliers are explicitly reinvesting price gains into capacity (ADI states hike revenue will fund fab and assembly expansion).

Expect this pricing cycle to run into 2027. Negotiating room in Q4 is limited; the goal is locking the right parts, at the right time, at the right levels.

3. Buyer action list (execute against the calendar)

4.       Lock ADI before September 13. This week is the final window — RFQ part-by-part for current prices; prioritize high-reliability/military-grade lines (up to 30%).

5.       Lock NXP before September 28, and handle end-of-life in the same pass: LPC1xxx last-time-buy (LTB) runs to 2027-03-31, RF power LTB expires 2026-09-30 (this month) — miss it and you pay spot premiums.

6.       Segment your buffer stock. Allocation-controlled parts (automotive, AI power, isolators) need long-term agreements plus rolling forecasts; general-purpose parts should be locked to real project demand, not panic stockpiled.

7.       Qualify second sources. Beyond onsemi and ST for SiC/power, validate ROHM (improved Gen3 650V availability) and Infineon; evaluate drop-in alternatives for the most inflated analog lines.

8.       Put price validity into your PO. 48–72-hour spot quotes are now routine — include price-protection terms on lock-in orders so verbal pricing cannot be walked back.

4. How HallChip can help

We are an independent distributor covering 14 global brands — TI, ADI, ST, Infineon, onsemi, NXP, ROHM, Diodes, Allegro, Melexis, AKM, Honeywell, SEIKO NPC, and TDK-Micronas — for spot and contract supply:

·         Price lock: batch RFQs and old-price purchase orders before effective dates, with price-protection terms;

·         EOL management: multi-year LTB coverage inside deadlines and replacement evaluation for discontinued parts;

·         Supply & lead-time planning: spot matching for allocation-controlled parts and rolling forecasts aligned with factory schedules — turning price waves into delivery certainty.
